By far the most popular fencing material in this area, wood provides an all-around good value. There are several species of wood used in fencing; however, the two main types in Oklahoma are white wood and western red cedar. Redwood, white cedar and incense cedar are also available. Various combinations of northern spruce, pine, and fir are referred to as white woods. In Oklahoma southern yellow pine is the predominate white wood. These woods have little resistance to rot and insects and when properly installed should last 5 to 10 years. White wood is a low cost yet attractive material that can be stained or sealed for longer life. Untreated it will darken within 2 years.
